Career
In January of 2001, he released his debut album titled “PSY… From the P.s.y.c.h.o World.” Authorities in South Korea issued a fine because of the album’s controversial lyrics. Even his second album, released in 2002, caused criticism because of its sexually explicit lyrics. Jae-sang enlisted in the South Korean military in 2003, following the release of his third album, which marked his first truly successful album.
In 2005, he was spared from serving due to his employment at a software development company. He returned with a fourth album in 2006, which was recognized at the SBS Music Awards that year. At the time, state prosecutors claimed that Psy had abandoned his job to focus on his music career.
The court redrafted him, and he didn’t get out of his commitments until July of 2009. He was unable to release new music because of money issues. In 2010, Psy released his fifth studio album and signed with YG Entertainment. The lead single “Right Now” was restricted from minors. Psy had already had six number one singles in South Korea, but he had yet to break through to an international audience.
