Who is Brook Lopez?

Brook Robert Lopez (born April 1, 1988) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. Known as “Splash Mountain,” he earned NBA All-Star recognition with the Brooklyn Nets and secured two selections to the NBA All-Defensive Team while playing for the Bucks. Lopez contributed to the Bucks’ NBA championship victory in 2021.

Lopez played college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal for two years before being drafted as the 10th overall pick by the then-New Jersey Nets in the 2008 NBA draft. He spent nine seasons with the Nets, becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. After a season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Lopez joined the Milwaukee Bucks. His twin brother, Robin Lopez, also plays for the Bucks.

Born in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, Brook Lopez’s basketball journey began far from the bright lights of the NBA. During his first season at Stanford University in 2006–07, Lopez earned All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention and a spot on the All-Pac-10 Freshman Team. He averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds. In the subsequent season, he showcased significant improvement, averaging 19.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game. Lopez’s standout moment came in the 2008 NCAA tournament when he hit the game-winning shot against the Marquette Golden Eagles. He declared for the 2008 NBA draft alongside his twin brother, Robin.

Drafted 10th overall by the New Jersey Nets, Lopez made an impactful rookie season, earning All-Rookie first team honors.
