Eric Nobbs was a South African actor who appeared in Afrikaans television shows such as Sterk Skemer, Gauteng-aleng, Known Gods, Geraldina die Tweede, and Lui Maar Op, Belinda.

Eric made his professional theatrical debut in the 1978 PACT (Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal) production of Bartho Smit’s Die Keiser, and worked for the rest of the year under contract to SWAPAC.

He rejoined PACT in 1979, a relationship that lasted until 1986.

During this time, he rose to prominence in a variety of parts, including Faan in Faan se Stasie, Org in Pa Maak vir my ‘n Vlier Pa, Bezuidenhout in The Road to Slagtersnek (Die Verhoor by Andr P. Brink), Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Cyril in Huis op Horings.

He began producing his own performances in 1995 and has since successfully toured South Africa and Namibia with his one-man shows.

He has also had enormous success with two of his other one-man shows, Broekbrein, written by Chris Vorster and performed by Eric, and Tell Me the Truth, created by Deon Opperman.

Eric traveled the festival circuit in 2007/08 with the P.G. du Plessis comedy smash Sophia Mentz Beredder Haar Boedel, in which he portrayed the male lead Tor Mentz, as well as a highly successful tour with Doppers en Filistyne.

He won the Johannesburg Civic Theatre Trophy and a Vita Theatre Award in 1985 for his portrayal of Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire, and he was nominated for Best Actor for Pa Maak vir my ‘n Vlier Pa (1985), Ma-Plotters (1988), Die Meester (1992), and Sterk Skemer (2000).

In 1999, he was nominated for a Fleur du Cap award for his role in One Man’s Life. In July 2002, he received FNB Vita Theatre Awards for Best Lead Actor and Best New South African Play (as producer/creator) for his performance of Albert Lombaard in Broekbrein.
