Raymond (Ray) Allen Liotta— was an American actor who lived from December 18, 1954 to May 26, 2022. He rose to prominence after appearing in the film Something Wild (1986), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
He was best known for his roles as Shoeless Joe. Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams (1989), and Henry Hill in Goodfellas (1990). Liotta also appeared in a number of other films.
In 2005, he received a Primetime Emmy Award for his guest appearance on the television series ER.

Biography
Liotta was born on December 18, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey. He was adopted at the age of six months after being abandoned at an orphanage by township clerk Mary (née Edgar) and auto-parts store owner Alfred Liotta.
His adoptive parents were of Scottish and Italian ancestry. Alfred was a personnel director and the president of a Democratic Party club in his community. Both of his adoptive parents ran unsuccessfully for local political office.
Linda, Liotta’s adopted sister, was also adopted. He stated that he was adopted as a child and had done a show-and-tell report on it for kindergarten.
In the 2000s, he hired a private investigator to track down his biological Irish mother, from whom he learned his family was mostly of Scottish descent. His biological siblings included one biological sister, one biological half-brother, and five biological half-sisters.
Ray Liotta was raised in a Roman Catholic home in Union, New Jersey, though his family was not particularly religious. They went to church, and he was confirmed and received first communion, but the family did not pray much.
He graduated from Union High School in 1973 and was later inducted into the Union High School Hall of Fame.
Ray studied acting at the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978. At the University of Miami’s Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, he appeared in plays and musicals such as Cabaret, Dames at Sea, Oklahoma, and The Sound of Music.
