Who is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi?
Muhammadu Sanusi’s Lamido Sanusi II was born into the royal Kano emirate family to Muhammad Aminu Sanusi and Saudatu Anduwa Hussainin Kano. Muhammadu Sanusi I, his grandfather, was the Emirate’s former Emir.
Sanusi was a member of the Islamic intellectual elite, as well as a banker, political economist, academic, and academician. Prior to becoming Emir of Kano, he was the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He was impeached on March 9, 2020, by the Kano state government led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II is the spiritual leader of Nigeria’s Tijanniyah Sufi order.

Biography
Sanusi was born in Kano on July 31, 1961, to a ruling-class Fulani family of the Sullubawa clan. He is the first of his parents’ three children.
Aminu Sanusi, his father, was a career diplomat who served as the Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium, China, and Canada before becoming the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was also Kano’s Chiroma. Muhammadu Sanusi I, his grandfather, was the 11th Emir of Kano from 1953 until 1963, when he was deposed by his cousin Sir Ahmadu Bello.
Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano, was a member of the Fulani Sullubawa clan. Following the death of his grandfather, Ado Bayero, he ascended to the throne in 2014. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje forced him out of office on March 9, 2020.
From 1967 to 1972, Lamido Sanusi attended St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Kakuri, Kaduna. He attended King’s College Lagos after receiving his First School Leaving Certificate.
He attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria after graduating from secondary school in 1977. This school awarded him a Bachelor of Economics in 1981.

Sanusi worked for UBA in the credit and risk management branch, where he rose through the ranks to a number of managerial positions.
He rose through the leadership ranks at UBA to become the General Manager.
After that, Sanusi joined First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) in 2005 as executive director and board member in charge of risk and management control. Finally, there was the CEO.
Sanusi was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in June 2009 by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (CBN).
